Mr. XIAO is a senior patent attorney and litigator in chemical field, who’s primary technical specialty covers polymer, pharmacy, life science, chemical engineering and chemistry. He is also one of the senior manager of the Biological & Chemical Patent Division.

Since joining Beijing East IP in 2002, Mr. XIAO has been helping many Fortune 500 corporations in procuring and enforcing their IP rights in China. Through over a decade of services, Mr. XIAO gained extensive experiences in patent preparation, filing, prosecution, and reexamination at the State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO). In addition, Mr. XIAO has abundant experiences in patent litigation matters. Specifically, he has litigated dozens of cases before the Patent Reexamination Board (PRB), the Beijing First Intermediate Court, the Beijing IP Court, and the Beijing High Court for various MNCs, including Pfizer, DSM, 3M, etc.

Besides his practice in chemical areas, Mr. Xiao is also experienced in prosecution and protection of industrial designs. Specifically, Mr. Xiao successfully represented various clients, including Nokia and Toyota, in many design invalidity lawsuits, where he helped Toyota to obtain its first winning judgment for designs from a Chinese court.

Mr. XIAO also counsels clients in a variety of IP related matters, including ownership, trade secret misappropriation, licensing, etc. As an example, Mr. Xiao represented a US company in a negotiation for patent ownership against its Chinese OEM manufacturer, and successfully helped the client retrieved the ownership of 18 design patents.
