Chinese patent documents became part of the PCT minimum documentation on July 1, 2012，which elevated the importance of Chinese patent documentation as part of global prior art. However, most of patent fields in a Chinese patent documentation has no international counterparts, which makes it difficult for non-Chinese individuals to search for Chinese prior art in a time and cost-effectively manner.

Searching in Chinese and other languages (i.e., English and Japanese) helps to critically improve hit rates. In addition, use of multiple outstanding databases and search tools for searching patent, non-patent documents, and legal cases further strengthen the reliability of search results.
