On July 14, 2016, Beijing East IP’s Chairman Dr. Lulin Gao was invited to Renmin University of China to speak at the Conference on Economics in IP and IP in Economics. The one and half day conference was jointly organized by the China Intellectual Property Law Association, China Resource Center, Office of Policy and International Affairs, USPTO, Law School of Renmin University of China, and the Intellectual Property Academy of Renmin University of China.

The topic discussed at the conference was divided into six sessions, including the Role of IP in the US and Chinese Economics, Government and Industry Studies on IP Polices, Innovation, IP Protection and the Economy, Public Awareness/Survey of IP and Data-Driven Industry and Government Strategies, IP and Anti-Trust Law, and Data on IP Commercialization. Dr. Gao delivered a speech on China IP Decisions Database during Government and Industry Studies on IP Polices session. Dr. Gao briefly introduced IP House, a famous on-line searchable bilingual IP database in China. Dr. Gao highlighted the methods to use IP House’s database to observe the developments of China’s enormous economic change. Additionally, Dr. Gao demonstrated how to use IP House’s data to observe China’s economy.

The conference discussed wide ranges of policy, legal system, judicial, and other aspects. Analyzed the economic changes on various levels of corporation, industry, and country from different perspectives. During many highly participated discussions, the conference further promoted communications between China and U.S. as well as the developments of China’s intellectual property and economic system.

On June 30^th, 2016, the class of 2015 to 2016 in the International Intellectual Property Project of Tsinghua University attended their graduation ceremony at Tsinghua University School of Law. This graduation ceremony was also the award ceremony of the Tsinghua-Microsoft Intellectual Property Scholarship and the Gaolulin Foundation IP Scholarship.The award ceremony was hosted by Guobin CUI, Associate Professor of Tsinghua University School of Law. Professor Weixing SHEN, Deputy Dean of Tsinghua University School of Law, Dr. Luin GAO, Chairman of Beijing East IP, Dr. Xiaodong Li, President of Beijing East IP, and Dr. Lifan LUO, General Manager of the legal department of Microsoft ARD gave inspiring speeches in the ceremony. After the speeches, Dr. Gao and Dr. Li presented the scholarship certificate to this year’s two winners of the Grand Prize and six winners of the Excellence Prize. The wonderful speeches and warmly award ceremony inspired the students who determined to engage in the intellectual property, are also well affirmed the support of Beijing East IP to Intellectual Property Research Institute of Tsinghua University School of Law.

Founded in 2013, the Gaolulin Foundation devoted to improve China’s IP development via funding IP scholarship, sponsoring academic IP research and hosting international IP seminars.

Newsletter of June

On June 5-7, the Intellectual Property Business Congress 2016 (IPBC Global 2016) was successfully held in Barcelona, Spain. Hundreds of senior IP managers from cooperates, academy, government and firms gathered and discussed key issue and challenges encountered in the course of creation and management of IP assets.

The IP STARS Handbook recently issued by Managing Intellectual Property recognized Mr. Jason Wang as a 2016 IP Star. Mr. Jason Wang, the Managing Partner at Beijing East IP Law Firm, and his team garners very high praise from clients.

In May 2016, Asia IP magazine published the list for firms in Asia for “Trademark Contentious”.  Beijing East IP, led by Mr. Jason Wang, is honored to be listed among the ten firms in China area.

Recently, the International Instruments on Copyright was published by the China Book Press, which was translated by Mr. Anman QIU, senior advisor of Beijing East IP. This book has collected a total of 14 international copyright and copyright related treaties, conventions and agreements. This translation is a foundation research program of China’s Copyright Administration and Mr. QIU undertook the translation exclusively.

Xiaohong YAN, the Deputy Administrator of National Press and Publication with the State of Administration of Radio Film and Television and the Deputy Director General of National Copyright Administration, wrote the preface for the book, elaborated the significance of translation and publication of the book. Meanwhile, he mentions that Mr. QIU is a very suitable person to translate the book, because he used to serve at the National Copyright Administration in the 1980s, and later worked at the World Intellectual Property Originations for almost 15 years, which indicated that Mr. QIU has advantages in language and copyright laws. Mr. YAN also mentions that he has a deep impression on Mr. QIU’ thoughtful mind and meticulous working attitude. Mr. QIU also wrote the translator’s preface for the book.

The translation of this book is beneficial for understanding the courses of change and development of international copyright laws, and comprehensive systematic analysis of the documents thereof. This book is also a workbook convenient for investigation and verification of international copyright laws.
