On September 17, Dr. Lulin GAO, Beijing East IP’s Chairman, was awarded the China Law & Practice Outstanding Achievement Award for his impressive contributions to China’s intellectual property law system, especially in the patent regime.

From 1987 to 1998, Dr. GAO served as the Commissioner of China Patent Office. During his tenure at the China Patent Office, Dr. GAO had led Chinese government delegations to attend international IP forums and conferences, such as various World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) meetings where Dr. GAO served as Chairman of WIPO Conference and Paris Union Assembly. Dr. GAO also served as the Vice-President of the Diplomatic Conference of Conclusion of a Treaty Supplementing the Paris Convention as far as Patents are Concerned, and Vice-Chairman of Diplomatic Conference for the Conclusion of a Treaty on the Protection of Intellectual Property in Respect of Integrated Circuits. In addition to his successful leaderships in WIPO, Dr. GAO also initiated the building of the patent database that is currently being used in the State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO).

After Dr. GAO stepped down from public services, he established Beijing East IP Ltd. and Law Firm (“Beijing East IP”) in 2002 to continue his vision to expand the reach of China’s intellectual property developments by helping and serving domestic and foreign corporations enforcing its intellectual property rights in China. In 2014, after more than a decade long of dedications on enforcing intellectual property rights in China, Dr. GAO and many of Beijing East IP’s senior partners established the GAO Lulin Foundation to further their visions on extending China’s intellectual property developments by setting academic scholarship in domestic and internationally recognized law schools, hosting and co-hosting international intellectual property conferences, and sponsoring international academic seminars to share with the world about China’s intellectual property trends and developments.
