In December, 2013, the Supreme People’s Court issued a ruling favorable to a domestic mechanical equipment company (the “Company” hereinafter) represented by Beijing East IP Ltd., rejecting a re-trial application filed by a competitor of the Company.

In November 2013, Beijing East IP organized a team to attend the Intellectual Property Litigation Evidence Regulation Seminar hosted by the Supreme People’s Court and Jiangsu High Court in Nanjing. This seminar increased our attorneys and lawyer’s professional skills in intellectual property litigations.

As a famous luxury hotel band around the world, the RITZ-CARLTON mark owned by Ritz-Carlton hotel was recognized by China court recently. Both the trial court (Beijing First Intermediate Court) and the appellate court (Beijing High Court) overruled the decision of the Trademark Review and Adjudication Board (TRAB), and recognized the RITZ-CARLTON mark on hotel services and restaurant services as a well-known mark. The presiding judge from the appellate court for this case cited this typical case (cited this as a typical case) and posted comments and analysis on China Intellectual Property News on November 8, 2013.

On October 26 – 27, 2013, Beijing East IP sponsored the Application of Intellectual Property and Competition Law High Level Conference was successfully held in Beijing. Beijing East IP organized a team with patent agents and lawyers to host a booth. During the Conference, Chairman Dr. Lulin GAO presented a topic on the business patent protection on the Internet.

On November 6, 2013, Copyright Union of Internet Society of China and Beijing East IP Ltd. jointly hosted Seminar on Unfair Competition on Internet in the office of Beijing East IP Ltd.. The seminar invited Ms. Kate Spelman, partner at K & L Gates as the lecturer. More than twenty attorneys from famous Internet companies in China attended the seminar.

In October 2013, two of Beijing East IP’s patent attorneys attended a European patent law and practice training in Munich. This training highly increase Beijing East IP’s intellectual property service quality to international clients, especially European clients.

On October 17, 2013, the Second China InternetInnovation and Intellectual Property Protection Summit was held in Hangzhou, China. Chairman Dr. Lulin GAO presented as a keynote speech as the Vice Chairman of the Internet Society of China.

In September 2013, the Trademark Review and Adjudication Board (TRAB) recognized that the mark of a world-wide famous social network website enjoys relatively high reputation in China and rejected five opposed marks filed by various Chinese entities. Beijing East IP Ltd. represented this world-wide famous social network website.

In September 2013, Chairman Dr. Lulin GAO was invited to present lectures at the John Marshall Law School in Chicago.

In August 2013, the Trademark Review and Adjudication Board (TRAB) supported the appeal filed by the applicant represented by Beijing East IP Ltd., and the TRAB rendered the favorable decision approving the registration of the BLURB mark in Class 40.
