Mr. Jason WANG Invited to Present at the CIETAC and ARNDRC 2015 Seminar: Online Dispute Resolution in the Internet-Plus Era

On June 15, 2015, the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission, Online Dispute Resolution Center (CIETAC ODRC) and the Asian Domain Name Dispute Resolution Center (ADNDRC) co-hosted the “Online Dispute Resolution in the Internet-Plus Era” seminar in Beijing. More than 170 representatives of judges, scholars, attorneys at law, trademark attorneys, domain name registrants, and corporate representatives from China, South Korea, Malaysia, Spain, France, and Hong Kong attended the seminar. Associate Director and Secretary-General Jianlong YU of CIETAC delivered the welcome remarks representing the host. Associated Director Lin QI of CNNIC and Director Zheng SONG of ICCAN Beijing Cooperation Center also delivered opening speech. The CIETAC ODRC was established in 2000 to provide domain name dispute resolution services. The CIETAC ODRC had resolved nearly 3,000 various domain name dispute cases, including nearly 1,000 cases involving international generic gTLDs and nearly 2,000 cases involving China-based TLDs.

The seminar focused closely on topics about “Online Dispute Resolution in the Internet-plus Era.” Judges, experts, and practitioners from domestic and international domain name, intellectual property, e-commerce, and other fields presented topics surround the protection method of new gTLDs, domain name dispute resolutions and its relationship with litigations and arbitrations, e-commerce legislations and online dispute resolution mechanisms, online arbitrations, etc. combined with unparalleled domestic and international legislation samples and related precedents.

During the “Relationship between Domain Name and Trademark Protection” session, Mr. Jason WANG Partner of Beijing East IP Law Firm cited a domain name dispute and litigation case based on unauthorized use of a celebrity’s name to analyze and interpret the thought processes of ADNDRC and Chinese courts when adjudicating similar cases. Mr. WANG also, based on actual practices, provided comments and advices that the interested parties and the attorneys should pay close attention to when dealing with similar cases.
