In a recent trademark infringement lawsuit against an internationally reputed and renowned hard drive manufacturer (Hard Drive Manufacturer), Futian District People’s Court of Shenzhen City (the Court) affirmed that the products of the Hard Drive Manufacturer do not infringe upon the Plaintiff’s trademark registration, thus the Court dismissed all the Plaintiff’s claims including claimed damages of RMB 1.5 million (around US$ 250,000).

On October 2, 2014, the 2014 U.S. and China IP Dialogue Seminar was co-hosted by the Gao Lulin Foundation and the Silicon Valley Intellectual Property Law Association (SVIPLA), co-sponsored by Beijing East IP Ltd./Beijing East IP Law Firm (Beijing East IP) and Tsinghua University School of Law in Silicon Valley, home to many of the world’s largest technology corporations in the U.S.This Seminar created a senior platform to promote the U.S. and China IP academics and industrial exchange and cooperation. Through this Seminar, U.S. and China IP scholars, professionals, and attorneys engaged in in-depth discussions of the latest developments and enforcement of U.S. and China IP law.

On December 22, 2014, Mr. Anman QIU, former Deputy Director General of the National Copyright Administration of China joined Beijing East IP Ltd./Beijing East IP Law Firm (Beijing East IP) as a senior advisor.

On October 15, 2014, Rule 14 of the Provisions of the Supreme People’s Court (SPC) on Several Issues concerning the Trial of Administrative Cases Involving the Granting and Determination of Trademark Right (Draft for Comment) was released with two different opinions regarding the weight of evidence of trademark registration certificate and trademark gazette in determining copyright ownership.

On December 7 – 9, 2014, Beijing East IP attended IPBC Asia 2014 in Shanghai, China. Setup an exhibition booth to attract and discuss with worldwide intellectual property professionals regarding creation of intellectual property value, and development of intellectual property in the Asia-Pacific region.

On October 17, 2014, 2014 Intellectual Property and Capital Market Forum in Yantai City was hosted by Yantai City Intellectual Property Office and Yantai City Bar Association, sponsored by Beijing East IP Ltd. and Beijing Wei Heng Law Firm Yantai Office was successfully held in Yantai Hai Yue Tower.

From November 19 – 21, 2014, the first World Internet Conference was held in Wuzhen, Zhejiang. The Conference used “An Interconnected World Shared and Governed by All” as its theme, and was co-hosted by the Information Office of the State Council and the People’s Government of Zhejiang.

From November 5 – 7, 2014, the annual Patent Information Fair & Conference (PIFC) was held in Tokyo, Japan. Beijing East IP Ltd. organized a team to attend this Conference for the second consecutive year.

Mr. Jason WANG and Ms. Yan ZHANG, partners at Beijing East IP Law Firm, recently published the article titled “Protection for Prior Copyright in Trademark Disputes” on the China Trademark magazine (Issue 10, 2014). The China Trademark magazine is a monthly magazine supervised under the State Administration for Industry and Commerce (SAIC, who oversees Chinese Trademark Office and Trademark Review and Adjudication Board) and hosted by the China Trademark Association.

On October 2, 2014, the Gao Lulin Foundation and the Silicon Valley Intellectual Property Association (AIPLA) hosted, Beijing East IP and Tsinghua University School of Law sponsored the U.S. and China IP Dialogue seminar in Silicon Valley.
