Mr. Li started his career as a software engineer in 2005 at NEC, and more than 6 years later, he joined a local smartphone company as a technical manager. He is experienced in software development, computer system, and computer communication. Mr. Li has a good understanding of software development process and management, and is very familiar with industries like Internet, smart device, computer software, etc. His working experience in high-tech enterprises gives him a good sense of understanding various technologies and clients’ needs.
Since Mr. Li joined Beijing East IP in 2011, he has been working on various stages of the life of a patent including prosecution, reexamination, and invalidation.
Beginning 2013, Mr. Li started his work in patent consulting. He focused on patent search, patent analysis and patent management. He has extensive experiences in patent consulting like patentability search, validity search, Freedom-to-Operate search, Evidence of Use (EoU) analysis, patent landscape analysis, and patent portfolio analysis. He also provides consulting services on IP strategy and enterprise IP management.
In terms of technology transaction, he focused on helping Chinese companies to find advanced and needed technology worldwide and to promote their self-owned technology abroad. He leads a team of 8 experienced patent attorneys. His team is now managing six worldwide patent portfolios from leading companies, including more than 500 patents, two of which have entered the substantive negotiations stage. The team has established a wide range of connection with several well-known technology transfer agencies, it can be expected that the technology transfer business will have a rapid growth.
Mr. Li speaks Chinese, English, and Japanese.
Sir Richard Needham has spent near fifty years in business and politics. He has unrivalled access at the highest levels into both public and private sectors in Asia, Europe and the US.
From 1985-1992 Richard Needham was a British Minister in Northern Ireland, and was appointed the Minister of Trade at the UK DTI in 1992.
Since leaving politics he has become involved in a number of businesses both large and small. He was Director of several leading corporations. He is President of the British Exporters’ Association and continues informally to advise the British Government on trade promotion matters. He is also an advisor to the President of Colombia on the peace process. Richard is the author of two books and is an Honourary Doctor of laws for the University of Ulster. He is a founder member of the UK-Japan 21st Century Group.
Dr. Jacques Michel has served as a policy maker, politician, as well as a diplomat in his fifty years of professional career.
Dr. Jacques Michel was the former Vice President of the European Patent Office (EPO) in year 1987-2002. During his tenure in EPO, he was in charge of the Directorate General 1, implemented automation of prior art search for EPO, and built up several popular electronic tools such as EPOQUE suite of applications and Espacenet on line service.
Earlier in 1971-1987, Dr. Jacques Michel held various positions in the French Secretariat of State for Research and the Ministry of Industry, and in the Services of the Prime Minister, related to problems of scientific and technological information issues.
From 1968 to 1971, Dr. Michel was appointed Science Attaché to the French Embassy to the United States of America, and served as Assistant and then Senior Assistant at the Science Faculty of Paris-Orsay afterwards.
Dr. Michel has a doctorate in Physical Science at Paris University. He has been the Director of EUROPATIS (European Patent searching Company) since 2009.
Dr. Lin has practiced over twenty years in the field of Intellectual Property. As a licensed patent attorney, he has played a significant role in several intellectual property litigation matters. His technical specialties cover broad spectrum of physics science, electronic and semiconductor devices and manufactures, computer software and hardware, fiber optics, image and display technologies, and MEM and nano-technologies. Dr. Lin is a member of California State Bar, and is a frequent speaker at seminars and conferences.
Dr. Lin also has rich experiences in industry. Prior to his legal career, he spent fifteen years as a system engineer at IBM and Lockheed. Dr. Lin worked for General Electric as Nuclear Fuel Project Manager responsible for managing nuclear fuels for the Nuclear Power Stations in Taiwan.
Dr. Lin received his J.D. from Santa Clara University, his Ph.D. in Nuclear engineering from the University of Cincinnati, and his B.S.E. in Nuclear engineering from National Tsing-Hua University in Taiwan. He also completed his JSD course requirements in Stanford University.
Mr. Anman QIU studied in London School of Economics – Department of Law and the Institute of European Studies of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences with a concentration in international business administration. Mr. QIU acted as the former Deputy Director General of the National Copyright Administration of China, WIPO Patent Examiner, Executive President of Zhongguancun Institute of Intellectual Property Strategy, President of Music Copyright Society of China, Vice President of Copyright Agency of China, Associate Director of Editorial Department of Encyclopedia of China Publishing House, and Legal Consultant of Acumed, LLC.
Mr. Anman QIU participated in drafting the Chinese Copyright Law, acted as a representative of China’s copyright expert to negotiate with WIPO and UNESCO before China accede to the Berne Convention and the Universal Copyright Convention, where he also negotiated about the U.S. and China intellectual property matter. Mr. QIU also worked for WIPO as a PCT examiner for more than a decade.
Mr. Anman QIU translated the Cultural Product and World Trade Organization and the Lexicography of English published by The Commercial Press, the oldest publisher of China. Mr. QIU also acted as the Chief Translator and Reviewer of Patent Law of Twelve Nations published by Tsinghua University, a translator and reviewer of the Collection of International Legal Documents of Copyright and Relevant Rights, and edited the Intellectual Property Dictionary published by China Encyclopedia Publisher. Mr. Anman QIU published more than 20 articles.
Ms. Ren worked as a journalist and editor since late 1970’s for China Youth Daily, China Law Magzine, and Beijing Legal Times. From 2004 to 2009, she worked as the general counsel of Sunrider (China) Co. Ltd., Beijing Sunworld Dynasty Hotel & Beijing Sunworld Hotel. Ms. Ren joined Beijing East IP in 2010. Ms. Ren is experienced in trademark disputes, trademark infringement lawsuits, unfair competition lawsuits, administrative complaints, administrative lawsuits, and other complicated IP cases such as copyright cases and patent cases. Ms. Ren is an acting Council Member of the China Intellectual Property Law Society, a Council Member of WTO Law Board of China Law Society, and a member ofthe China Law Society.
Mr. Li graduated from Tsinghua University with a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. Before joining Beijing East IP in 2004, Mr. Li acted as the Chief Examiner of the Third Division of the Mechanical Examination Department at the Chinese Patent Office from 1980 to 1991. From 1991 to 1996, Mr. Li subsequently acted as the Vice President and President of Patent Literature Publishing House (now re-named as Intellectual Property Publishing House). Mr. Li now focuses on training of patent attorneys. Mr. Li has accumulated a wealth of experience in patent prosecution in automobile industry, paper making and printing devices, lighting devices, and combustion devices.
Dr. Li is the General Manager of the firm responsible for the entire firm’s operation. Dr. Li is a senior patent attorney and China Supreme Court appointed attorney for patent litigation with abundance experiences in electrical and electronics field related matters, including prosecution, invalidation, reexamination, appeal, and litigation before the State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO), the Patent Re-Examination Board (PRB), the People’s Courts, and the China Supreme Court. In addition, Dr. Li is experienced on corporate China IP portfolio management and counseling.
Mr. Lin is the Manager of the Electrical Patent Division with more than 10 years of experiences in practicing intellectual property laws in China. Mr. Lin’s primary technical specialty covers communication, computer, Internet, control, IC, and optical instrument. Mr. Lin primarily focuses his practices around software patent and business method patent in China.
Mr. Edwin Wong is the Head of GW & Partners based in London. GW & Partners is a partnership between Beijing East IP Ltd., one of the leading intellectual property law firms in China, and Mark Wong & Associates (MWA), a project development consultancy based in Hong Kong.
Edwin received a MSc Degree in Information Technology from University College London and a BSc from the University of Nottingham.
Edwin is a Director at MWA since 2011. Prior to MWA, Edwin was at Qatalyst Partners in London, a boutique investment bank specializing in merger and acquisition advisory for technology companies. Prior to Qatalyst Partners, Edwin has worked in the investment banking team at Merrill Lynch in London and Hong Kong where he was involved in various M&A and Capital Markets and debt transactions, including the US$722 million IPO of Evergrande Real Estate Ltd, US$300 million High Yield Bond offering of China Properties Group, the US$108 million IPO of China Sunergy, NXP’s c.$8bn separation from Philips.
