On July 4th, Dr. Lulin GAO was invited by Yuejiao ZHANG, China’s first woman justice of Dispute Settlement Body of the World Trade Organization (WTO), to chair the TRIPs Panel for the WTO at 20: Multilateral Trading System, Dispute Settlement and Developing Countries Conference held in Tsinghua University, Beijing.
On June 5, 2015, the Institute of Intellectual Property (IIP) and Beijing East IP Ltd. co-hosted the second international seminar in the meeting room of IIP in Tokyo. This seminar was moderated by Mr. Kawamata Hiroshi, the Deputy Director of IIP. Dr. Xiaodong LI, General Manager of Beijing East IP Ltd. delivered an opening speech as representative of the host at the opening of the seminar. More than 40 professionals attended this seminar, including IP lawyers and IP attorneys from domestic Japanese enterprises and Japanese patent law firms, examiners from the Japan Patent Office, professional IP experts from IP organizations and universities.

At the seminar, Senior Advisor Mr. Anman Qiu of Beijing East IP presented a speech focused on the latest development of IPR in China. The Director of our Tokyo office, Dr. Wei Song presented a speech on the topic “Protection of Trade Secret in China”. Manager of our Japanese/Korean Division, Ms. Yongyu Zhang presented a speech based on landscape of infringement litigation in China and provided valuable suggestions for foreign companies. In the Q&A session, attendees raised a number of questions about the above three topics, which were well answered by lawyers and patent attorneys of Beijing East IP. After the Q&A session, partial attendees stayed and exchanged their opinions about IPR protection and practices in China with Beijing East IP team.

Q&A Session
This seminar utilized multiple sessions of speech and Q&A to allow IP professionals of Japanese enterprises and law firms understand the latest development of China IP protection. This seminar also provided advisory opinions on how can foreign enterprises protect IP rights in China through practical experience of Chinese attorneys and analysis of typical cases.
On June 5, 2015, the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission, Online Dispute Resolution Center (CIETAC ODRC) and the Asian Domain Name Dispute Resolution Center (ADNDRC) co-hosted the “Online Dispute Resolution in the Internet-Plus Era” seminar in Beijing. More than 170 representatives of judges, scholars, attorneys at law, trademark attorneys, domain name registrants, and corporate representatives from China, South Korea, Malaysia, Spain, France, and Hong Kong attended the seminar. Associate Director and Secretary-General Jianlong YU of CIETAC delivered the welcome remarks representing the host. Associated Director Lin QI of CNNIC and Director Zheng SONG of ICCAN Beijing Cooperation Center also delivered opening speech.
On June 5, 2015, the final round of “the 6th Zhi Chan Li Cup”Beijing Universities Law Major Debate Competition was held in the renowned Renmin University of China. As the final teams, Beijing Normal University and Renmin University of China debated on “Whether Ideas Can be protected under the Copyright Law.” Beijing Normal University came out on top. Zhi Chan Li (http://www.zhichanli.com/), a famous Chinese domestic intellectual property media, is the strategic cooperation partner of this competition.
Mr. Jason WANG of Beijing East IP Law Firm was invited, again, to act as a judge for the final debate. Other judges include the distinguished Prof. Shunde LI of the Chinese Academy of Social Science, Senior Counsel Xuan ZHANG of Zhi Chan Li, a judge from the Beijing Intellectual Property Court, Ms. Tong FU of 360.cn (the largest online security platform in Chinese), Ms. Zhuo LIN of JD.com (the famous online e-commerce platform in China), etc. In addition, Adjunct Prof. Huanqing YAO of Renmin University commented on the debate.

On April 15th, 2015, a drinks reception was held in the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park hotel in London, to mark the opening of GW & Partners (GWP). Delegates from British government, social organizations, corporations, law firms and the Embassy of P.R. China etc. attended this opening reception.
China Intellectual Property Society (CIPS) and the Gao Lulin Foundation (GLF) cohosted the High Level Executives Seminar on Exclusive Rights of Integrated Circuit Layout Design in Beijing. Secretary-General Yuncai ZHANG of the CIPS delivered the opening remarks. More than 50 intellectual property experts from different fields attended including experts from the intellectual property law field, integrated circuit association, Legal Affairs Department, Patent Reexamination Board (PRB), and Preliminary Examination and Docketing Department of SIPO, Beijing Guo Wei Intellectual Property Judicial Expertizing Center, and other high level executives. Deputy Secretary-General Xiushan MA of the CIPS moderated the Summit.
On March 31, 2015, Mr. Jean-Charles HOURCADE, General Manager of France Brevets, visited Deputy Commissioner Hua HE at SIPO, discussing IP topics of mutual interest, including creation and implementation of IP strategy, and monetisation and commercialisation of patent portfolios.
